 2011 - 2012 Q & A

Some questions have come to my attention. I’ll attempt to answer them below. A map of the proposed classroom allocations will also be available on the website.

There will be regular updates available on the website to keep you informed of the progress being made during modernization. Please feel free to contact us with any questions and concerns you may have.

Where will students park?

We have been working with the Town of Claresholm related to parking. In order to limit the impact related to the increase in vehicular traffic in the area around the school, the Town will be creating a student parking lot immediately east of the school on the current school ground. Access to the parking lot will be through the alley just south of the school. The alley is currently, and will remain, a one-way running from west to east. Parking is also available on 1A Street. Students will be encouraged to park in that area rather than in the residential areas in the vicinity of the school. Staff parking is intended for 2nd Street immediately west of the school and playground area as well as on 55th Avenue, north of the school.

Will there be enough washroom facilities on the 8-12 campus?
Since we will never have full occupancy (some students will be at the old Quills restaurant (foods), some will be at Maclean Hall (gym), some will be at the old Beauchamp building-woods, welding, mechanics, band, cosmotology, the gr. 7's at WMES), the existing bathroom facilities meet code standards.
Where will students go during spares and breaks?
Students will be able to visit quietly in the front foyer during spares, they may also be able to visit in the library depending on availability of space. At lunch time, students will be able to eat and visit in the lunch room.
Will there be a Library at the 8-12 Campus?
There will be a Library and it will be located in the same rooms as this past school year. See the Room Allocation Map for the location of the Library.
When will Junior High Students choose options?
Due to the uncertainty of staffing for the 2011/12 school year prior to exams starting in June we were not able to have Jr. high students select their options prior to the end of the school year. As a result, in the first week of September, we will be meeting with all junior high students to outline what options are available and give them an opportunity to select them at that time. Parents will be required to sign off on student choices for options.
What is happening with the Grade 7 Students?
The grade 7 students will be WCCHS students and therefore will be a part of our activities, assemblies, sports teams, funding, and discipline protocols. All school fees and correspondence will be handled through the 8-12 campus. The grade 7 students will be located on the north end of West Meadow in the two upstairs classrooms.
