Referral Process for Student Services
-
Teachers complete a student referral form when they have identified significant learning or behavioral problems with a student.
-
-
A team member will survey the teachers involved with the student to see how broad the presenting problem is and return this information to the Student Services Team.
-
The Student Services team meets to address the incoming referrals and devise an action plan. At this time, parents and teachers may be invited to help select strategies they feel are appropriate to implement in the classroom.
-
-
A re-evaluation date will be set to determine the effectiveness of the strategies with input from the parents, student, teachers, and other stakeholders.
-
Livingstone Range School Division school staffs strive to work together with all special needs students and parents to design appropriate programming for all students based on shared information. Any concerns can be addressed at the school level with the Learning Support Teacher and Principal and then, if necessary, with the Jurisdiction to determine the needed next steps. (Policy 14, Livingstone Range School Division #68.) Further problem solving might involve the Superintendent of Schools, the School Board or the Minister of Education.
