Monday, November 25th is the Livingstone Range School Division's Divisional Day for professional development. It is a day for all employees of LRSD, teachers, support staff, bus drivers, custodians, maintenance, central office staff (the list goes on) to meet together at the Crowsnest Consolidated High School to support student learning, to share effective professional research and practices, and to celebrate staff achievements. This year's focus is on "Transforming Education in LRSD".
The morning keynote speaker is Dr. Wes Neumeier, the Superintendent of Prairie land School Division. Dr. Neumeier has an interest in curriculum relevance and student engagement, especially as it applies to rural communities. He examines rural student achievement in the context of community assets; reality as culture and its potential impact on student learning. His keynote is entitled "Transforming education through Community Engagement".
The afternoon is comprised of a variety of sessions for staff to attend. Sessions - 36 topics from which to choose -include presenters who work within our LRSD schools as well as other professionals from the area. Some of the topics include assistive technology, online research tools, math benchmark assessment, sensory integration, digital citizenship, fostering creative environments, asynchronous learning, navigating the world with Cerebral Palsy, Career & Technology Studies, and utilizing smart board, share point and personally owned devices within the classroom.
Divisional Day is a unique opportunity for the Alberta Teacher’s Association and the Livingstone Range School Division to work together. We appreciate the public support in our efforts to foster the development of professional learning communities.
