Learn and Grow Together

At W.A. Day School, we are committed to improving and learning.  This includes all of of the people who work at our school not just the students.  We have several areas which are proving to be very successful in changing practice to make it more effective. This is a multiprong approach to meet the diverse needs of our students.

1)  Planning and Professional Development Days:  This provides us with an uninterupted time to work on inservices regarding the reading and writing process, technology and behavioral solutions for our students.  We are blessed to have a wealth of expertise right in the school.  Many of the days we have our own staff lead activities of learning on those days.

2)  As part of our school improvement plans the structures that we put in place were continued over the past three years.  This includes a monthly 1/2 day Grade Level Team Meeting where we delve into the activities that are working for students and identify areas where there may be greater needs.  The emphasis is always working on student strengths.  We find that what works for the struggling student will also work for a stronger student.

3)  Learning Support Team Structures are essential to meet the needs of students.  Weekly meetings provide us with the opportunity to review student progress and brainstorm new approaches.  Teachers can refer students with the areas of concern and we try to address these areas.  As another level of support, once a month teachers have the opportunity to meet with the Learning Support Team to speak on specific needs in a one to one session.

There are many times when discussions amongst peers begin to develop team approaches to learning.
