Roles and Responsibilities 
 

Belief Statement:

Parents, students, teachers and the community have a shared responsibility and accountability in a student’s educational and social development.

 Students

Granum students say they need to:
  • Be ready to learn – get enough sleep - eat proper meals – show up at school every day on time.
  • Participate in all learning activities – be responsible for assignments being complete and on time.
  • Be responsible for putting forth your best effort – finding out about work missed if you are absent.
  • Do your best in class: pay attention, be productive, don’t bother other people when they are working, do your own work.
  • Ask for help when needed.
  • Be willing to help others when needed.
  • Show respect towards people and things.
  • Set a good example for others.
  • Take responsibility for your actions.
  • Co-operate with others.
  • Follow through on commitments.
  • Make sure all handouts are given to
  •       parents.
  • Follow Alberta School Act guidelines.

 Staff

Granum staff members say they need to:

  • Maintain a positive and safe learning environment for students.
  • Participate in making decisions about the operation of the school.
  • Maintain and improve your effectiveness as a staff member by engaging in professional development activities on an ongoing basis.
  • Encourage parents and the community to become involved in school activities.
  • Maintain a high standard of professional practice and conduct.
  • Maintain confidentiality and respect in all interactions.
  • In addition, teachers also must:
  • Identify the learning needs of students, plan programs, deliver instruction and evaluate the extent to which learning has taken place.
  • Keep parents informed about their children’s educational progress.
  • Maintain a high standard of professional practice and conduct as outlined in the A.T.A.  Code of Professional Conduct, and follow Alberta School Act guidelines.

 Parents

Parents need to:

  • Ensure students arrive at school on time and are ready to learn. This includes adequate rest and a nutritious breakfast and lunch.
  • Attempt to resolve any problems concerning your child’s education  by speaking first to the classroom teacher.
  • Take time to stop and listen to your child.
  • Participate in the development of, become informed about, and support all school and classroom policies.
  • Exercise your right to a clear understanding of your child’s progress.
  • Book appointments for Three-Way Conferences, and take part in the process.
  • Remember that you are your child’s primary educator; your support is key.
