Parent & Community Engagement

On August 29, 2011 about 160 people gathered at the Community Hall in Fort Macleod to listen to Jamie Vollmer speak about the importance of engaging the community in public education. Vollmer is the author of Schools Cannot Do It Alone: Building Public Support for Public Schools’. The morning session was opened to the public. In the afternoon, working groups of about 10 representatives from each school community began the planning process to share information about their school with community organizations. Vollmer calls this step in the process ‘the great conversation.’

One of Livingstone Range School Division’s priorities is to ensure student, parent and community involvement in decision making. Jamie Vollmer’s in-service and the related process will both enlighten community awareness of what is happening in our schools and increase public engagement in our schools.

 The Great Conversation in LRSD

Jamie Vollmer’s primary goal is to help educators and their allies remove the obstacles to progress and create schools that unfold the full potential of every child. You can visit Jamie's website at http://www.jamievollmer.com/the-conversation.html

Education is our one common experience.

As we - Alberta Education, school boards, educators, stakeholders, parents and students - embark on the journey of transforming ECS-12 education in Alberta we want to ensure that communities have an opportunity to become involved in meaningful dialogue. We hope that Albertans will take us up on this offer to engage by commenting on blogs, posting ideas, following us on Twitter and Facebook and participating in new initiatives as they are launched.

We look forward to engaging with you!
