Internet Safety and Media Awareness

This site is dedicated to helping parents understand the 'information highway' that their children will travel both at home and at school. The "RULES of the ROAD' are much the same as the daily safety rules that we use to help our children understand the dangers that they might encounter in their ever-widening world. Check out the videos, slideshows, links and documents.

The goal of the Be Web Aware initiative is two-fold:

LRSD

We take the safety of our students very seriously - physical, social, and emotional. We work with students to help them navigate their digital environment in a directed, responsible, informed manner.

Our juridicton has created a Responsible Use Policy that every student in the jurisdiction is expected to know and adhere to. Students/parents signing this document agree to the terms and conditions outlined in the document as they access the LRSD network. Parents will sign on behalf of their children at the beginning of the year.

Alberta Education has partnered with The Media Awareness Network to provide Alberta teachers with a series of professional development workshops which focus on Internet issues such as: authentication of online information, electronic privacy, online marketing and consumerism, Internet safety, cyber bullying and online ethics.

Passport to the Internet helps young people develop the critical thinking skills they need to apply to their online experiences by enabling them to use popular online tools and Web sites in a secure and ethical manner, and to their full potential. Using simulations of the most popular Internet environments, this interactive resource teaches students about online safety, authenticating online information, recognizing online marketing ploys, protecting their privacy, managing online relationships and dealing with cyberbullying.
